Miami Defeats Central Michigan Behind Snedden's Hat Trick

ATHENS, Ohio - Miami freshman Angela Snedden scored a hat trick, while junior Marie Vaughn made nine saves as fifth-seeded Miami defeated fourth-seeded Central Michigan, 4-2, in the first round of the MAC Field Hockey Championships Friday afternoon at Ohio University. The RedHawks (7-13) advance to tomorrow's first semifinal against regular-season champion Kent State, while the Chippewas closed their season at 8-11.

Snedden scored the game-winning goal with 3:14 left in the game when she took a pass from junior Meghan Phalen and poked it into the back of the net, breaking a 2-2 tie.

Miami got on the board first when Snedden took a pass from junior Beth Young and rifled the ball past Chippewa goalkeeper Janel Spero at 11:33 of the first period. Senior Kari Roche put the RedHawks up 2-0 when she scored on a direct corner at 3:14.

Central Michigan cut the lead in half when freshman Krystal Yee converted on a pass from junior Melissa Lazarevski with just two seconds left in the first period. The Chippewas tied the score with 16:40 left in the game, when Lazarevski scored on a direct corner

Snedden completed the scoring - and sealed the RedHawks victory - when she connected on a pass from Phalen at 1:13, completing her hat trick.
