CMU's Cunningham Named MAC Wrestler of the Week

Cleveland, Ohio (December 7) -- Central Michigan University senior Ryan Cunningham has been honored as the Pepsi Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the week for the first week of the season.

A 174-lb. wrestler from Middleton, Mich., Cunningham won the Keystone Classic Championship with two falls and a 6-0 decision. Cunningham's first fall came in :16, earning him the fastest fall honors at the tournament. His second fall took :52, earning him the most falls in least amount of time at the classic, two falls in 1:08.

Other Nominees For This Week's Award:
Buffalo--Joe Downey (197, Fr., Norwich, N.Y.) went 3-2 at the Las Vegas Tournament and beat an NCAA qualifier from Oregon State.

Kent--Jim Swetter (Hwt., So., Brunswick, Ohio) went 4-0 with three falls and one forfeit at The Citadel Duals. Recorded pins in 2:20, 4:31 and 4:39 to improve to 12-3 on the season.

Northern Illinois--Peter Plapp (Hwt., So., Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) clinched the Huskies 19-16 win over Marquette with a pin over Marquette's George Flannick. Plapp also won a 4-2 decision over Eastern Michigan's Derrick Parker earlier in the week. Plapp is 9-3 this year after a 1-6 freshman campaign.

Ohio--Tim Courtad (Hwt., Sr., Aurora, Ohio) finished second at the Penn State Open. Courtad is 6-1 on the season.
