Cleveland, Ohio- Jami Bosley of Akron and Theron Smith of Ball State are the recipients of the Mid-American Conference men's basketball Player of the Week awards for the second week of the 1999-2000 season. Bosley fought off a foot injury to play 35 minutes and score 25 points in an 89-79 win against Illinois State while Smith led the Cardinals to two wins by grabbing 23 rebounds in games versus Southern Illinois and Indiana State.
MAC Pepsi Offensive Player of the Week - Akron's Jami Bosley (6-1, Sr., G, Massillon, Ohio)
Bosley led Akron to an 89-79 win against Illinois State by scoring a game-high 25 points despite playing 35 minutes on an injured foot that forced him to miss the Zips' previous game at Wyoming. Bosley made 8-of-13 field goal attempts, had three steals, two assists and two rebounds.
Ball State's Duane Clemens (6-0, G, Sr., Muncie, Ind.) scored 19 points versus Southern Illinois and bettered that with 20 points against Indiana State, both of which contributed to Ball State wins. His 20 points at ISU all came in the second half. He added nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Bowling Green's Anthony Stacey (6-4, F, Sr., Elyria, Ohio) led the Falcons with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 91-84 win against Arkansas-Little Rock.
Buffalo's Louis Campbell (6-2, G, Jr., Rahway, N.J.) scored 32 points in two games with a high of 20 in an 81-78 win versus New Hampshire. Campbell also had 14 rebounds, seven assists and six steals.
Central Michigan's David Webber (6-2, G, So., Farmington, Hills, Mich.) averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and 3.5 assists in two games, including scoring 26 points in a 78-75 overtime win at Illinois-Chicago. CMU also beat Wright State 76-48 to go 2-0 on the week.
Miami's Anthony Taylor (6-1, G, Sr., W. Medford, Mass.) in the Redhawks only game of the week he hit 8-of-9 field goal attempts (3-of-3 from three-point range) and 3-of-3 free throws for 22 points in a 75-59 win at IUPU-Indianapolis.
Northern Illinois' T.J. Lux (6-9, C, Sr., Merrillville, Ind.) scored 18 points and pulled down five rebounds in a 61-55 loss to New Orleans.
Ohio's Shaun Stonerook (6-8, F, Sr., Westerville, Ohio) in a 68-60 win against Princeton, he scored 15 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, made three steals, dished out two assists and blocked one shot.
Toledo's Greg Stempin (6-8, F, Jr., Macomb, Mich.) in three games, Stempin scored 56 points (18.7 ppg) and grabbed 29 rebounds (9.7 rpg) as the Rockets went 2-1 at the Hawaii Tournament. Stempin added six steals and had six blocked shots as UT won the consolation bracket with wins over Florida International and Oakland.
MAC Pepsi Defensive Player of the Week - Ball State's Theron Smith (6-8, Fr., F, Auburndale, Fla.)
Smith managed 23 rebounds (6 offensive and 17 defensive) in Ball State's two wins against Southern Illinois and Indiana State. Smith had eight rebounds versus SIU and a team-high 15 versus Indiana State. He also added a steals versus ISU while scoring 11 points and had 13 points versus SIU.
Ohio's Anthony Jones (6-4, G, Jr., Austin, Texas) grabbed five steals in a 68-60 win versus Princeton. Also led the team in scoring with 18 points.
