MAC Baseball Players of the Week Announced

CLEVELAND -- The Mid-American Conference today announced the East and West Division Players and Pitchers of the Week for the week ending Apr. 1. Each week, the MAC will honor both an East and a West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week.

This week's Player of the Week from the East Division is Bowling Green's Kelly Hunt, while Ohio's Denny McGee is the Pitcher of the Week. From the West Division, Eastern Michigan's Greg Anglin is the Player of the Week, while Toledo's Shawn Wilson is the Pitcher of the Week.

East Division Player of the Week
Kelly Hunt, Bowling Green (So., 1B, Bowling Green, Ohio/Central Catholic HS)

Bowling Green's Kelly Hunt is this week’s MAC East Division Player of the Week after hitting .474 (9-for-19) and leading the Falcons to three wins on the road at Ohio. The sophomore, who had a pair of four-hit games last week, was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBIs in the series finale with the Bobcats and nearly hit for the cycle with a pair of doubles, a triple and a home run. Hunt also had a .944 slugging percentage.

Other Nominees:
•Buffalo's Brandon DiCesare batted .444 (8-for-18) last week in four games at Kent State. The sophomore drove in four runs, scored five times and had three multi-hit contests.

•Kent State's John VanBenschoten was 11-for-26 (.423) with 10 runs scored and had nine RBIs. He also hit two home runs, stole two bases and had a pair of doubles. The junior had at least one hit in all seven games last week to extend his hitting streak to 19 games.

•Marshall's David Colangelo batted .600 (12-for-20) in five non-conference games for the Thundering Herd. The junior scored 10 times and had three doubles and a pair of stolen bases. Colangelo, who also had four multi-hit games, is on a 10-game hitting streak.

•Miami's Jason Knoedler hit .480 (12-for-25) in six games last week for the RedHawks. The junior, who scored eight times and drove in three, had four doubles and four multi-hit games.

•Ohio's Adam Fox was 7-for-13 (.538) with six RBIs and six runs scored last week in four games against Bowling Green and a non-conference tilt with Youngstown State. Fox, who had three multi-hit contests versus the Falcons, hit two home runs in the series and also drew four walks.

East Division Pitcher of the Week
Denny McGee, Ohio (Jr., SP, Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS)

Ohio's Denny McGee is named the MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after tossing a nine-inning complete game victory over Bowling Green on Saturday. McGee, who pitched his fourth complete game of the season, struck out nine batters and limited the Falcons to three runs in the Bobcats’ 9-1 victory over Bowling Green.

Other Nominees:
•Bowling Green's Craig Menke struck out nine and walked three in Bowling Green’s 9-4 win over Ohio, one of three victories picked up over the weekend against the Bobcats. In the nine-inning complete game victory, Menke gave up four runs and eight hits.

•Kent State's Dirk Hayhurst appeared in two contests for the Golden Flashes, one of which was a four-hit shutout of Buffalo. The sophomore struck out five and walked none in the win and allowed only two runners to reach second base. Hayhurst appeared earlier in the week against Cincinnati, going 2.1 innings and allowing three hits and a pair of runs.

•Marshall's Doug Digness was 1-0 in two appearances last week for the Herd and fanned a career-high 11 batters in a victory over West Virginia State. The junior allowed only three hits in the win and walked only two and then pitched three innings in relief in Marshall’s win over Wright State.

•Miami's Chris Leonard improved his record to 5-1 with a complete game win over Western Michigan, striking out 11 and walking only two. In nine innings, the sophomore gave up five hits and five runs in the 8-5 victory over the Broncos.

West Division Player of the Week
Greg Anglin, Eastern Michigan (So., OF, Ypsilanti, Mich./Willow Run HS)

Eastern Michigan's Greg Anglin is this week’s MAC West Division Player of the Week after hitting .450 (9-for-20) and leading the Eagles to four league victories over Northern Illinois. In six games, Anglin had a pair of doubles, two triples and one home run in addition to driving in four runs and stealing two bases. The sophomore, who finished out the series with the Huskies by going 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and scoring twice, had a .900 slugging percentage and a .455 on-base percentage. Anglin is presently on an eight-game hitting streak.

Other Nominees:
•Ball State's Aaron Zehnal batted .381 (8-for-21) with five homers and 13 RBIs in five games. The sophomore, who also scored seven times, tied a school record with three home runs in a game in the finale versus Toledo while driving in eight runs and scoring five times. The senior, who also hit two home runs against Minnesota, had a 1.095 slugging percentage.

•Northern Illinois' Noel Danielson batted .476 (10-for-21) with two home runs and five RBIs in six games. The junior, who also scored five runs and stole two bases, extended his hitting streak to eight games and registered an .810 slugging percentage last week.

•Toledo's Tony Miller hit .500 (11-for-22) with eight runs scored, one double, a triple and four RBIs. The junior also stole three bases and had a .636 slugging percentage in six games.

•Western Michigan's Mike Scott was 7-for-13 (.538) as the Broncos won three of four games on the road against Miami. The senior drove in five runs, crossed the plate four times and had a pair of three-hit games.

West Division Pitcher of the Week
Shawn Wilson, Toledo (Sr., RHP, Lake Orion, Mich./Brother Rice HS)

Toledo senior Shawn Wilson is this week's MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week after tossing a three-hitter against Ball State this past Saturday in a 3-1 victory for the Rockets. The right-handed pitcher fanned 10 batters and didn’t allow a walk in the seven-inning complete game victory. Wilson allowed only one runner to reach second base in the contest, a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Other Nominees:
•Ball State's Bryan Bullington notched his second straight nine-inning complete game victory and the third of the year with a 7-5 win over Toledo last Friday. The sophomore surrendered five runs -- two earned -- on 12 hits and struck out 10 and walked one.

•Central Michigan's Dan Horvath appeared in two games last week for the Chippewas, notching an 11-1 victory over Akron. The sophomore, who also pitched an inning against Wayne State, tossed six innings of three-hit shutout ball for CMU, striking out eight and walking three before the game was suspended.

•Eastern Michigan's Joe Linde won his second MAC game of the season with a 4-0 shutout of Northern Illinois. The junior tossed a nine-inning complete game two-hitter against the Huskies and struck out five while walking one. Linde, who posted the Eagles’ first shutout since Feb. 29, 2000, gave up a single in the first inning and another one in the ninth.

•Western Michigan's Pat Misch posted one of three Bronco victories last weekend over Miami with an 11-3 win on Sunday. The sophomore fanned a career-high nine batters in the nine-inning victory while allowing three runs, two of which were earned.
