Ball State head coach Randy Litchfield's volleyball team departed Sunday, July 16, for a 10-day trip to Europe for competition against teams from Italy, France and Spain.
"What we face in July will provide us with a springboard into a very challenging September schedule," Litchfield said. "This is probably the toughest non-conference schedule that we have ever faced. With the team we have intact, I feel we are ready for that kind of challenge."
The schedule includes a match against an Italian Junior National Team July 18 in Parma, Italy; a match in Montpellier, France, on July 21; a July 22 matchup versus the CV Granollers in the public pavillion in Granollers, Spain; and matches versus Club Cornella at pavilion San Ildefonso and Club Valles in the pavilion of Granollers on Monday, July 24, before returning to the US.
While on tour, the Cardinals will have free time in and around Parma and/or the
Rimini area, with an opportunity to visit the beaches and go shopping. Ball State team members will have the chance to walk the streets of France while in that country. Additionally, the team will tour the city of Barcelona, famous for the 1992 Olympics, its cathedrals, the Royal Palace and its nightlife with Spanish flamenco dancers.
"The trip and competition that we will encounter in Europe will provide a unique educational, cultural and athletic experience that our players, coaches and support staff will never forget," Litchfield said.
