The College Football Hall of Fame's new, state-of-the-art, traveling
exhibit kicks off its 1999 postseason travels Dec. 3, when it heads to
Huntington, W.Va. to be on display at the 1999 Mid-American Conference
Championship game.
The Road Show will be on display from 5 p.m. until the 8 p.m. EST
kickoff of the title tilt between Marshall and Western Michigan. The RV
will be located on the West side of the stadium near the press box
elevators.
"It's certainly a great opportunity to have the College Football
Hall of
Fame's traveling exhibit at our football championship game. Being one of
only three conferences to host a conference championship in football, it
gives the Mid-American Conference an opportunity to treat fans to two
spectacular events, MAC Commissioner Rick Chryst said. I would like
to
extend my thanks to Mr. Bernie Kish and his staff for helping make this
exhibit possible."
The new RV, which was unveiled July 15 and houses the Hall's mobile
museum, was donated to the Hall by Coachmen Industries of Elkhart, Ind.
and
Coachmen Recreational Vehicle Company of Middlebury, Ind. The 1999
Santara
360 Class A motorhome replaces a 10-year-old RV that had served as the
traveling Hall since 1989.
The interior of the 38-foot vehicle features displays, artifacts
and
memorabilia from the Hall. The exterior of the RV reflects the same
dynamic
graphics of the museum itself.
We're very excited to have the new traveling Hall ready to go,
Hall
of Fame Executive Director Bernie Kish said. This vehicle is awesome,
both
from a design and technical standpoint. It's a splendid representation
of
this superb sports museum.
Upon entering the Road Show, visitors will immediately see a
display
opposite the entrance that is a three-dimensional montage of images and
artifacts representing the permanent exhibits at the Hall of Fame,
including
a continuously playing video tour of the Hall. This display will be
housed
within the slide-out section of the RV, consisting of a large ink-jet
mural
background and memorabilia including a band uniform, helmets,
autographed
balls, a cheerleader's uniform, trophies, significant game program
covers
and other football-related books, including a coach's playbook.
Completing
the left side of the vehicle is an interactive kiosk entitled 'Great
Moments' that plays bloopers, great upsets, legendary games and
memorable
plays.
The right side of the RV displays the 'Evolution of Equipment',
where
guests can view such items as pads, helmets and shoes from the early
1900s
to present. The evolution of equipment is explained with a mural to
enhance
the exhibit. Further back on the right side, the 'Pantheon-Past and
Present' showcases current individual award winners and the jerseys of
several college football greats. Each of the 10 awards and trophies
given
annually to college football standouts are highlighted with a photograph
and
explanation. The Pantheon also features a mini-theater with
touch-screen
display.
At the back of the unit, replica sculpture plaques of select Hall
of
Famers adorn the area while a videosphere offers a kaleidoscope view of
highlights from current Hall of Famers.
