Motor City to Host MAC 2000 Football Media Preview

Updated 7/6/2000
The Mid-American Conference announced its 2000 Football Media Preview will take place July 24-25 in Detroit. The two-day event is an opportunity for the media to meet coaches and players from the MAC, enjoy a golf outing and take in a major league baseball game. Media sessions include coach and player interviews, one-on-one availability for interviews and the MAC News Media Association meeting. The event is open to accredited media only.

The golf outing moves to nearby Ypsilanti, Michigan, home of Eastern Michigan University. Eagle Crest Country Club will provide the backdrop for the outing on July 24, which will feature MAC coaches and administrators and is open to the media.

This year's media preview moves to a downtown setting, with the headquarters being the Marriott Hotel at Renaissance Center. A Detroit Tigers baseball outing is planned for the new Comerica Park in downtown Detroit the evening of July 24, and media interview sessions will take place at Cobo Center July 25.

A Detroit meeting tradition for more than 30 years, Cobo Conference/ Exhibition Center is one of the largest convention facilities in the United States. In 1988, a $225 million expansion enlarged Cobo to span more than 17 acres of downtown Detroit and thus offer 700,000 square feet of exhibit space. The "new" Cobo has 84 meetings rooms, which can be used separately or linked to the exhibit floors via 26 escalators. Named for the late Albert E. Cobo, mayor of the city from 1950-1957, Cobo Hall has served millions of convention and tradeshow delegates. Tens of millions more have attended public shows. The name was changed to Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center in 1987 to reflect the facility's multiple uses. Detroit's premier meeting facility, Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center welcomes millions of people each year to conventions, trade shows, meetings, banquets and public shows.
