Ohio's Mazziotto Wins Second Field Hockey Player of the Week Award

Lauren Mazziotto (Sewell, NJ) scored nine points for the Bobcats as Ohio went 2-0 in conference action last week. The junior back had four assists against Central Michigan in an 8-0 Bobcat victory, which marked the first shutout of the season for the Ohio defense. Mazziotto was also the deciding factor against Ball State contributing on every score with two goals and one assist while adding one defensive save in the Bobcats 3-1 victory. This is the second time this season Mazziotto has garnered this award.
 
 

Other Nominations For Player of the Week

Helen Jerdan (Kent State, Back, So., Glasgow, Scotland)

Scored a hat trick in Kent States victory over Northwestern and scored a goal against Ball State for eight points.

Jennifer Welgosh (Louisville, Forward, So., Wapwallopen, Pa.)

Scored two goals against Miami, including her first collegiate score and went on to add another goal against Appalachian State.

BALL STATE

Ball State will play its eighth nationally-ranked opponent this week when the Cardinals travel to Michigan State ... Ball State Assistant Coach Sally Northcroft will be honored Sunday evening in Indianapolis as Indianas NCAA Woman of the Year.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN

After winning five of its last six, Central Michigan dropped its last two games by a combined score of 16-0, losing 8-0 to Ohio and Michigan ... Melissa Lazarevskis five game scoring streak was stopped on October 5 against Ohio.

LOUISVILLE

Louisvilles record of 9-4 is the best record the team has had since 1979 ... The Cardinals have won more conference games (3-2) this season than ever before ... Louisville has shut-out its last three opponents.

KENT STATE

The Golden Flashes have matched last seasons 10-game winning streak ... Kent State has also won 19 straight home matches ... When Northwestern scored first against the Golden Flashes on October 8, it marked the first time Kent State has trailed in a game since losing 4-3 in overtime to Boston College on September 3.

MIAMI

Miami has played in seven games decided by one goal with a record of 2-5 in those contests ... The RedHawks have been outscored 25-6 in MAC games this season ... Miami is led on offense by Angela Snedden with six goals.

OHIO

Ohio is 5-0 when scoring first this season ... Andrea Pettinatos hat trick was the first in her career while Tara Elliot also recorded her first career shutout against Central Michigan ... Ali Johnstone is two assists shy of breaking the all-time career record (25) at Ohio ...
