Kent Defeats Central Michigan in Overtime, 24-21

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) (October 7, 2000) -- Dave Pavich kicked a 49-yard field goal in overtime as Kent State beat Central Michigan 24-21 on Saturday to break a seven-game losing streak.

Kent (1-5, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) led at the half 14-7. But Central Michigan (1-5, 1-2) tied it in the third quarter when Kenan Lawhorne scored on an 83-yard pass from Derrick Vickers.

Vickers' 17-yard pass to Eric Salani at 6:40 of the fourth tied it again, forcing overtime.

Chante Murphy led Kent's rushing attack with 114 yards. Central was led by Lawhorne's 86 yards. The Golden Flashes outgained Central on the ground 188-109.

Neil Buckosh opened the scoring, catching a 14-yard touchdown throw from Jeff Valentino. Booker Vann scored on a 2-yard run for Kent in the second to put the Golden Flashes up 14-0.

Vickers completed 19 of 32 yards for 261 yards. Valentino was 10-of-21 for 132 yards.

Kent last won on Oct. 30, 1999, with a 41-30 victory over Buffalo.
