Opelika, AL (AP)(June 2) - The temperatures were rising but the scores were dropping today at the NCAA men's golf championships.

Oklahoma State, led by Charles Howell, stretched its lead over Texas heading into the final day of the 72-hole event at Grand National Golf Club in Opelika.

Howell shot a 9-under-par 63, matching an NCAArecord and moving to 20 under. That's three strokes ahead of Texas sophomore David Gossett, who tied the single-round mark yesterday.

Howell's mark, along with rounds of 13-under by the Cowboys and 11-under by Texas nearly overshadowed another N-C-Double-A record. Arizona State tied the collegiate mark with a 19-under 269, led by Scott Moore's 66. But Arizona State is still 12 shots off the pace.

Auburn is in 14th place, with an even-par 288 today. Kevin Haefner shot a 6-under-66 to lead the Tigers. Jason Dufner shot even par.
