CLEVELAND (November 5) -- It was exciting for women's soccer and field hockey with all
four semi-final matches decided by one goal in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
In women's soccer, number one seed Eastern Michigan defeated the
five-seeded Ohio Bobcats 1-0, giving Eastern Michigan's Sarah Willis her
twelth shutout of the year. In the second semi-final match, the three seed
Miami defeated the two seed Central Michigan 2-1. Miami's match-winner was
scored by the MAC Freshman of the Year Danielle Berkmeier with two minutes
left in regulation. Eastern Michigan and Miami will square off at 12 p.m.
on Sunday in the championship match. Eastern Michigan defeated Miami 2-0 on
September 26 to take the regular-season matchup.
Ball State and Kent will square off tomorrow for the second year in a
row to decide the MAC tournament champion in field hockey. Number four seed
Central Michigan took the number one seed Ball State into overtime before a
Sally Northcroft game-winner with less than a minute remaining in the first
overtime to give Ball State a 3-2 victory. In the second game, Kent's Inge
Corten scored the game winner with 1:43 remaining in regulation to lift the
Golden Flashes over Ohio. Ball State and Kent have split their
regular-season games with both teams winning at home. The championship
match will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 6.
