Kent State's Brouwer and Ohio's Mazziotto named co-MAC Field Hockey Players of the Week

Both Brouwer and Mazziotto helped their respective teams go 2-0 last week with their contributions. Brouwer scored 11 points in two Kent State victories. She had four points in a conference victory over Central Michigan while scoring seven points in a record-tying performance by the Kent State offense in a 11-0 win against Saint Louis. She had three goals and five assists overall last week. Mazziotto scored the game-winning goal against #19 Syracuse in overtime, while making the offensive and defensive difference against Delaware in Ohios first win of the season. She contributed with one assist and two defensive saves in Ohios 2-1 victory over the Hens.

OTHER NOMINATIONS

Shanna Fritz (Ball State, Forward, Fr., Benton, PA)
Scored the game-winner versus Rutgers in overtime after scoring the first goal of the game. Had five points last week.

Melissa Lazarevski (CMU, Forward, Jr., Rochester, NY)
Scored four goals this week, including a hat trick against Saint Louis in a 3-1 Central Michigan victory.

Christy Hershey (Louisville, GK, Fr., Palmyra, PA)
Stopped a penalty stroke in a 3-2 Louisville victory over Villanova to go along with her first career shutout against Northwestern.

Angela Snedden (Miami, Forward, Fr., Ontrario, Canada)
Scored goals on two of the three shots she took against Indiana.

MAC FIELD HOCKEY NOTES

BALL STATE
Ball State begins defense of seven-straight and a league-best 16 Mid-American Conference championships when it opens MAC play against Central Michigan this weekend. Ball State has a .944 winning percentage in conference action.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Central Michigan was led by Melissa Lazarevski with four goals this week. She scored every goal for the Chippewas in a 3-1 win against Saint Louis

LOUISVILLE
The Cardinals were ranked 18th in the latest STX/NFHCA poll with six more points than what they received last week. This is the best start (5-2) for the Cardinals since 1987.

KENT STATE
The Golden Flashes have a 18-game home winning streak, the longest in school history ... Kent States 11 goals against Saint Louis tied a school record for goals in one game.

MIAMI
Miami tied a 16-year old school record for goals in one game with nine goals scored against Indiana this past week. The RedHawks will begin conference action at home this week against Kent State and Ohio.

OHIO
Ohio entered the win column with wins over Delaware and #19 Syracuse this weekend, and will begin MAC competition this week on the road at Louisville and Miami. The Bobcats have only played one game this year against a team that isnt in the 2000 STX/NFHCA coaches poll.
