Kent's Mills Wins NCAA Central Regional
VICTORIA, TEXAS (May 20) - Kent's Jon Mills shot a tournament-low 65 to capture individual medalist
honors and lead the Kent State University men's golf team to a
second-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional Saturday at Victoria
Country Club in Victoria, Texas, on May 20.
Mills opened the tournament with an even-par 72 in the first round. He
bettered that with a 66 in the second round and wrapped up the
tournament with a 65 to finish 11-under par and five strokes ahead of
runner-up Cody Freeman of the Oklahoma.
As a team, the Golden Flashes shot 849 (291-285-273) to finish just
three strokes behind No. 23 Texas (291-284-272--847). The second-place
finish sends Kent State on to the NCAA Championship May 31-June 3 at the
Grand National Golf Complex in Opelika, Ala. The trip marks Kent
State's seventh NCAA Championship appearance in the past 11 years.
