ANN ARBOR, MICH. (May 20) - Sixth-seeded Central Michigan defeated Notre Dame, 2-1, to eliminate the Fighting Irish from the NCAA Softball Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Chippewas will now face fifth-seeded DePaul at 3 p.m. on May 20.
The Chippewas (33-12), scored all the runs they needed in the second inning. Hope Robertshaw,
began the inning with a walk and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Michelle Brander. Amy Morrison singled to put runners on first and third with one out. Central Michigan attempted a delayed steal, but the throw down to second base went into centerfield, allowing Robertshaw to score and Morrison to advance to third. Kristen White singled home Morrison to give the Chippewas a 2-0 lead.
Tina Kinney earned her second mound victory of the NCAA Regional to improve to 24-7 on the season. She allowed just one run on six hits. She had three strikeouts and one walk.
Notre Dame finished the 2000 campaign with a mark of 47-14.
