Miami University Field Hockey Upsets No. 19 Ohio, 2-1

OXFORD, Ohio (Oct. 23) -- Senior Courtney Seyferth (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) scored two goals, including the game-winner with 39 seconds remaining in the contest, to lead Miami University's field hockey team past 19th-ranked and Mid-American Conference leader Ohio University, 2-1 at Miami Turf Field.

Seyferth opened the scoring for the RedHawks (6-10, 2-6) by putting away her sixth goal of the season with 22:21 remaining in the first half. Junior Kari Roche (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) notched her fourth assist of the season on the blast.

Miami's lead remained intact until the 5:30 mark of the second half when Ohio freshman Jen Watt scored the lone goal for the Bobcats (12-7, 7-2) to tie the game 1-1. However, with only 39 seconds left in regulation, Seyferth scored her third goal in two days off a rebound to give the RedHawks the victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Marie Vaughn (Davis, Calif./Davis) led Miami's defense with 12 saves, while the RedHawks also notched a season-high three defensive saves.

Miami will close out the regular season next weekend with a pair of MAC road contests. The RedHawks meet Ball State at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29 before traveling to Central Michigan for the regular-season finale at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.
