MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (October 23)-- The Central Michigan University field hockey team (2-13
overall, 2-6 Mid-American Conference) lost to Ball State University by a 6-1
count in Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Ball State scored three goals in the first half to take a 3-0 halftime lead.
The Cardinals scored again early in the second half to increase their lead
to 4-0. CMU's Meg Lewis (Pittsford, NY/Fr.) got the Chippewas on the board
with a goal with 16:36 to go in the game to make it 4-1. Ball State added
two late goals to give it the 6-1 victory.
Ball State's Sally Northcroft scored four goals for the Cardinals while
Heather Weinhold and Monika Rhode scored BSU's other two goals.
Goalie Janel Spero (Shoreham, NY/Fr.) started the game and made eight saves
and gave up three goals while Malia Swieconek (Annapolis, MD/So.) played the
second half and made four saves and gave up three goals. Ball State outshot
the Chippewas, 17-5.
CMU hosts Louisville on Oct. 29 and Miami on Oct. 30.
