Miami, Akron and Toledo Student-Athletes Chosen as MAC Football Players of the Week

Cleveland, Ohio- Quarterback Mike Bath of Miami, defensive back Dwight Smith of Akron and Toledo placekicker Todd France captured this weeks Mid-American Conference Players of the Week awards for the third week of the season.

MAC Offensive Players of the Week
Miami quarterback Mike Bath (Sr., Celina, Ohio)
Bath won his second award this year for his outstanding performance at Ohio State. In a 27-16 loss to the #15 ranked Buckeyes, Bath accounted for 341 yards of total offense, including a team-leading 105 rushing yards on 11 carries. Bath completed 21-of-48 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns and had three interceptions.

Also nominated: Akron RB Brandon Payne (138 yards and 1 TD on 25 carries in a 35-24 win versus Central Florida); Buffalo WR Zeke McKine (10 receptions, 122 yards, a two-point conversion in first start, a 24-21 loss to Connecticut); Ohio QB Dontrell Jackson (10-of-13 passing, career-high 157 yards, 2 TDs in a 52-14 win over Tennessee Tech); Toledo RB Chester Taylor (156 yards, career-high 32 carries, 4 rec., 37 yards in a 31-26 win over Eastern Illinois); Western Michigan RB Robert Sanford (159 yards, 24 carries, 3 TDs, in a 56-0 win over Indiana State).

MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Akron defensive back Dwight Smith (Sr., Detroit, Mich.)
Smith had three interceptions and blocked a field goal in the Zips 35-24 win over Central Florida, snapping a two-game losing streak. Smiths two first-quarter picks led to Zip scores and a 14-0 lead. Late in the fourth quarter his block of a UCF field goal attempt kept the margin at 11 points. Smith also made eight solo tackles (nine total), a pass break up and had a tackle for a loss of three yards.

Also nominated: Buffalo DB Carlos Spencer (7 tackles, 5 solos, 1 pbu, 1 forced fumble); Kent State LB James Harrison (team-high 11 tackles, three tfl in a 26-20 loss to Youngstown State); Ohio DE Art Adams (6 tackles, 11-yard sack, blocked a punt); Toledo LB Kevin Rollins (int. return for TD, 11 tackles, 1 sack); Western Michigan OLB Anthony Allsbury (4 tfl, 1.5 sacks).

MAC Special Teams Player of the Week
Toledo placekicker Todd France (Jr., Maumee, Ohio)
France booted five field goals (29, 36, 31, 34, 26), one shy of the school record, in a 31-26 win over Eastern Illinois. Frances first field goal tied the game at 10-10 in the second quarter. With his team down 17-10 in the third, France added field goals from 36 and 31 yards to close the gap to one point. His two fourth-quarter field goals gave the Rockets leads of 28-17 and 31-20.

Also nominated: Buffalo DB Javunt Pratt (tipped 2 punts, credited with 1 blocked punt); Ohio PK Kevin Kerr (10 points, 7 PAT, 1 FG); Western Michigan PK Brad Selent (career-high 8 PATs).
