KENT, Ohio (AP) (September 16, 2000) -- Jeff Ryan threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores as Youngstown State beat Kent State 26-20 on Sept. 16th.
Ryan, who was held to minus-2 yards on 13 carries, rushed for scores covering 3 and 4 yards in the second quarter as the Penguins (3-0) took a 20-7 halftime
He threw a 14-yard TD pass to Brian Pedraza in the first quarter and added an 8-yarder to Sean Guerriero in the fourth to make it 26-14 after the Golden Flashes
(0-3) cut Youngstown State's lead to six points on a 19-play, 75-yard drive capped by Zach Williams' 1-yard run.
Williams also threw a 5-yard TD pass to Jurron Kelly with 54 seconds remaining, but Youngstown State recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.
Chante Murphy rushed for 92 yards on 22 carries and had an 18-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for Kent State.
Ryan completed 10-of-15 for 127 yards. The Penguins were held to 81 yards rushing on 50 attempts.
