Akron -- University of Akron senior point guard Jimmal Ball
(Canton/Timken) has been chosen for the 12th annual ESPN National Slam
Dunk Championship.
The Zips' 5-10, 174-pound dynamo will be in Indianapolis on
Thursday,
March 30, at Conseco Arena for the contest. The live event begins at
6:30 p.m. and will appear on ESPN that same evening from 9-11 p.m.
Ball will be matched against seven other college basketball
seniors,
including Auburn's Chris Porter. The event is part of the NCAA Final
Four weekend and will be hosted by Dick Vitale, Brad Nessler and Jay
Bilas.
The Zips' sixth-leading all-time scorer (1,557 points), Ball
possesses
a 35-inch vertical jump and bench presses 300 pounds. He is first on
Akron's career steals (240) chart and second in assists (384).
