KENT, Ohio (October 16) -- In a game full of close calls and dramatic saves, Inge Corten's (Nijmegen,
The Netherlands) goal with 3:59 left in overtime propelled Kent (12-5, 5-2
MAC) past Ball State (11-5, 5-2 MAC) 2-1 in overtime.
Three minutes into the game, Maggie Downey (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's
Academy) scored off an assist from Helen Jerdan (Glasgow, Scotland/Craigholm
School) to give Kent a 1-0 advantage. Sally Northcroft scored off a corner
from Kerri Schoultz and Jocelyn Teall with 1:06 left in the first half to
even the game at 1-1. After 42 minutes of scoreless play, Corten delivered
the game winner for Kent.
Both goalies had an outstanding game. Janelle Lynch (Morrestown,
N.J./Morrestown) finished with seven saves while Jen Myers had 10 for Ball
State.
Kent extends its home winning streak to 13 games. The record for the Golden
Flashes is 17, set from 1987-89.
Kent's last home game will be on Friday, October 29, as the Flashes host the
Ohio University Bobcats. Game time is at 7 p.m.
