MAC Pepsi Player of the Week
Ali Johnstone (Ohio, So., MF, Delta,
British Columbia)
Johnstone contributed on every
Bobcat goal this weekend as Ohio went 2-0 with wins over Miami and
Louisville. The sophomore midfielder had seven points, including three
of the four Bobcat goals and one assist. Against Miami, she scored the
game-winner 15 seconds into double-overtime, while on Saturday she
scored the game-winner nine minutes into regulation against Louisville.
Johnstone is currently fourth in the MAC in goals (8), points (27) and
assists (11).
Other Nominations for player of
the week
Helen Jerden (Kent, Fr., Back,
Glasgow, Scotland)
Recorded three goals in a 6-0 victory over Louisville and had an
assist in Kent's 5-1 win over Miami.
Cheryl Eglin (CMU, Sr., MF, Wading River, N.Y.)
She scored a goal and had an assist against Richmond. Those three
points moved her into second place on Central's career points list.
Sally Northcroft (BSU, Sr., F, Harare, Zimbabwe )
Scored four goals against Central Michigan in 6-1 victory. Scored
the game-winner and broke her own school record of goals in one season
which now stands at 37 goals.
MAC FIELD HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
The top three teams in the
conference (Ball State, Ohio, Kent) went a combined 5-0 this past
weekend, out-scoring their MAC opponents 19-4.
With six regualr-season games remaining, Louisville has
already surpassed last year's offensive numbers. The Cardinals have
already scored five more goals than last year (23), assisted four more
times (19) and totaled 11 more points (55).
Ohio's victory against Miami in double overtime, marked
the fifth time in the last six games the Bobcats have gone past
regulation. Ohio has also been involved in seven straight games decided
by one goal.
Ball State's Sally Northcroft had her tenth multiple-goal game
of the year when she scored four goals against Central Michigan..
It was her seventh hat trick of the season and the 19th of her career.
She has scored two or more goals in 10 of the 13 Cardinal contests this
season, including a school record of seven against American on Sept. 18.
Northcroft is the scoring leader in Divsion I this year with 37 goals
and 75 points.
Kent out-scored their opponents 11-1 this weekend as senior
goalkeeper Janelle Lynch earned her first shut-out of the year in a 6-0
win over Louisville. Freshman back Helen Jerden also scored her
first career hat trick against Louisville
Miami's Becky Warwick is now tied for first in career assists
at Miami. The senior currently has 24 following her assist this weekend
against Ohio. Central Michigan's Cheryl Eglin also continues to
climb higher on CMU's points list. She is eight points away from tying
the record of 98.
